To the artists that take their work to heart: Hey!We are very excited to offer you an invitation to our first Statement Competition. This competition is the most important and ambitious project we have undertaken since the beginning of Happycloth, so we are incredibly excited to tell you about it and we hope to have you on board:
The CompetitionWe are organizing this open art competition with the intention to find the perfect design for a special edition line of our accessories that will be dedicated to International Women's Day which is celebrated on March 8th. All profits from the sale of these special edition products will be donated to a related charity. More importantly we are hoping that this design will become a way for people to express their support for this special cause. The TopicThe subject of this art competition will be centered around women's rights; more specifically we are interested in artworks that will address the mistreatment of women across the world and from all different walks of life (ethnicity, socioeconomic status, race, etc). During this last year the Hollywood scandals and the #MeToo movement have brought the issue of the mistreatment of women well into the spotlight. We want to complement this movement by presenting a different aspect of the same topic. However feel free to select your own direction/topic/interpretation, as all designs no matter what topic they focus on, will be considered and reviewed.
The PrizeThe winning artist will be awarded a symbolic financial prize for the rights of the design. This prize is currently set at €200. On top of that we be awarding €1 from every product with their design that will be sold this year. The artist will have a choice between receiving this amount or donating it to the selected charity in their name. The artists name and story will be prominently featured in every product and they will become in that way the face of the support movement for this cause. The DeadlineThe final day for the submission of the designs and accompanying materials is on February 15th. This means that there are only two weeks between now and the deadline. We know that the time frame is tight, but we are confident that this is enough for all of you to create some incredible art. After the deadline all designs will be sent to our expert judges to find the winning artwork. Meanwhile the finalists will still have some extra time to improve their designs before production starts.Submission Materials1. A 4000 by 4000 pixel image that must be seamless and repeatable.2. A short description (one page) of the concept of the design, the inspiration, and the creation process (i.e. materials, techniques, etc)3. (Optional) Any accompanying materials, such as a time-lapse of creating the artwork, a short video, concept sketches, etc.All submissions must be sent by February 15th to email@example.com for review.Since this is an open competition please share this message with your artist friends that may be interested in participating. Please feel free to personally chat with us on Messenger for any questions, feedback, and help.
We would love to give you some updates on what we've been doing for the past few months.
Almost four months ago the two of us grabbed a small wooden table and a briefcase full of silk squares and set off to set up our little stand on London's Portobello Road with no idea of what to expect. Since then we have tried, asked, listened, and learned many things, and we have come a long way: We have published our own website and online store. We have been featured on an amazing article on Bored Panda. We got accepted and established our second London stall on Old Spitalfields Market. We successfully opened our first ever office space in London as part of the Launch Lab @ City University of London. And this is only the beginning. Over the last month we have been working tirelessly to bring drastic improvements to our brand: We have developed a stunning new packaging design that truly reflects the quality and artistry of our silk cuts; We have partnered with an incredibly talented photographer to organize an extensive photoshoot of our line; But most importantly, after popular demand, we have finally created two new jaw-dropping cuts of silk that will be added to our product line this spring: the Scarf and Ribbon cuts.
So, we are very happy (pun intended) to announce that our official launch will take place this March, and will be marked by our first attempt to make a statement with real social impact; to show our support for a cause that we strongly care about and to define ourselves as a company that stands for what it believes in. This is what this competition is about.
Cheers, Konstantinos & KonstantinosHappycloth
