MeToo. Ribbon.
Art created by Daniela Duarte, Brazil.
This artwork is the winner of the International Women’s Day Art Competition, organized by Epicloth on March 8th of 2018 in support of Women and their fight for gender rights. All profits from the sale of this design will be donated for the advancement of this cause.
Here is the story of the design: Originally handmade with ink and watercolor, the artwork displays simple line drawings of women of different ethnicities, surrounded by powerful feminist symbols and the now familiar “me too” motto. These lines being gracefully intertwined and continuous, represent the connection between all these women, their struggles, and their fight for equality. On the background, the water color stains add another element of connection through their representation of blood stains from the violence and suffering endured, but also through the symbolism of feminine fertility.
